How the Spurs and Warriors win: follow-up
A few weeks ago, we took a quick look at the Warriors and their point margin quarter-by-quarter to see if they won in the same manner as the 1996-97 Chicago Bulls.
Now, the San Antonio Spurs have surpassed the Warriors in point margin for the season and in fact, as of today, hold the all-time NBA record (not just 3-point era, as with our previous comparisons) for point margin through 37 games.
Since we have two teams making history - the Spurs in margin and the Warriors in record - I wanted to see if these two teams have similar quarter-by-quarter success. Here's the analysis:

Some quick takeaways:
- Obviously the Warriors start faster than the Spurs in both halves, and their 1st and 3rd quarter performance tops any of the Spurs quarters
- San Antonio is more balanced as they seem to pull away over the course of the game rather than put teams away early
- Could this be tied to the Warriors having a better overall starting five but the Spurs having more depth?
